Seriously, your iPhone could save your life!

One of the apps that comes with iOS 9 on your iPhone is the Health app. Did you know it could save your life?

This app defaults to a dashboard showing how many steps you've taken each day, the distance you've walked / run and the number of flights you've climbed.

But all the way to the right, is a feature that could very well save your life: Medical ID.

Medical ID is your personal Medical ID Tag that goes with your iPhone.

It allows, in an emergency, for health professionals to look at your medical conditions that could save your life.

How to access Medical ID?

Medical ID is accessible from your iPhone in an emergency, presumably because you are not in a position to tell others what medical conditions you have.

To access it, from the iPhone lock screen, a health professional or emergency rescue personnel would tap on the "Emergency" option:

Then tap "Medical ID"

And voila! Your Medical ID is displayed:

Sorry, the screenshot here is not very pretty because I blanked out my details. You can fill in yours and it'll look very pretty.

Which leads to the question: How do I create it?

Creating your Medical ID

First, you launch the "Health" app.

Once the app is opened, tap "Medical ID" on the bottom right hand corner:

Then tap "Create Medical ID"

You'll see the following screen:

Fill in your details and don't forget to add your emergency contacts.

You get to choose your emergency contacts from your Contacts (i.e. your Address Book) and once you've selected it, you get to choose the relationship with this contact

Tap "Done" when you've finished entering all the details.

That's it!

To test, see the "How to access Medical ID" section above.
